High Court of Madras give relief to Advocates to apply as the President Officer of the Debt Recovery Tribunal.

Yesterday, the Madras High Court passed an order which allowed Advocates to also apply for the post of President Officer of the Debt Recovery Tribunal. The order was passed in reply to notification dated 23rd June which called for applications issued by the Union Finance Ministry.

The interim relief order was passed as it was dealing with two petitions filed under Article 226 of the constitution which challenged the Tribunal, Appellate Tribunal and other Authorities Rule 2020.

The June 23rd notification for call of applications had specified that ‘A person should not be qualified for appointment as Presiding Officer of the Debt Recovery Tribunal unless he has been a District Judge.’
