Telangana HC Notice Government On Plea To Stop ‘Illegal Transportation & Slaughtering’ Of Camels

The High Court of Telangana has issued a notice to Government and GHMC in a petition seeking directions to stop alleged ‘illegal transportation of camels from Rajasthan to Telangana’ for slaughtering. Chief Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Vijayasen Reddy directed the greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to ensure that no camel slaughtered in the state.

While issuing notices to the Union Public Health Department,State Animal Husbandry Departments and police authorities the bench observed that the population of camels were being dwindling in the state of Rajasthan and most of them were being smuggled to Hyderabad.

The petitioner further submitted that the state of Rajasthan expressly prohibits taking camels out of Rajasthan and hence,it is an illegal act. And the Counsel appearing for the State Government ensured the court that they will take steps to prevent cruelty to camels in the state.
