Arnab Goswami, Republic TV reported distorted, misleading facts in Sushant Singh Rajput case, alleges PIL in Delhi HC

A Public Interest Litigation has been filed in the Delhi High Court alleging that journalist Arnab Goswami and his channel were reporting distorted and misleading facts over the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, resulting in a fair trial of actor Riya Chakraborty  violation of the right.

The petition seeking to give instructions to the Center to set rules, regulations to govern the reporting or broadcasting of all news related to criminal investigations.

A bench of  Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan was hearing the petition and asking the petitioner to come next date on 27 November.

The petition also calls for contempt of court proceedings against Goswami and his channel for alleged prejudicial report of the Rajput death case.

The petition alleged that journalists and TV channels are acting as judge juries to seek public opinion against Rajput’s friend Chakraborty.

No investigating agency is investigating any allegations of murder in the current criminal investigation. Even the FIR filed by the Patna police on the complaint received by the deceased’s father and suicide other penalties are for violation of provisions.

 Further, the petition claimed that according to the AIIMS report, the cause of death is suicide and not murder. It also calls for guidelines to prevent journalists and channels from publishing or broadcasting any information or news related to any criminal investigation in the name of investigative journalism or information from anonymous sources.

The matter would be heard on November 27.
