DELHI HC DIRECTS CENTRE TO CONSIDER REPRESENTATION FOR INSTALLATION OF CCTV CAMERA IN RESTAURANTS’ KITCHENS

The Delhi HC on Wednesday (27/05/2020) directed the Central Government to consider the Petition as a representation and seeking directions to the installation of CCTV cameras in the kitchen and food processing areas of the restaurants.

A division bench presided by Justice D.N. Patel and Justice Prateek Jalan of Delhi HC while conducting hearing through video conferencing noted that the suggestions be considered as representation in accordance with rules and regulations of law and Government Policies applicable to the facts of the case.

The PIL has been filed by Ms. Trisha Mahajan through Advocate Namita Roy and Abhijit Acharya, seeking directions for installation of CCTV cameras in the restaurants kitchens and food processing so it will be beneficial to check the cleanliness and hygiene precautions being taken by the restaurants and its staffs.

The Petitioner also submitted that this could assist the Food Inspectors in monitoring and ensure the infection-free preparation of food in consonance with the set guidelines. Whereas, the court stated that suggestion made by the Petitioner with regards to the installation of CCTV cameras shall be kept in mind by the concerned authorities while considering the said representation.
