DU Open Book Exams- Delhi HC Issues Notice to Pro Vice- Chancellor

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Pro Vice- Chancellor Prof PC Joshi claiming that DU has not taken any steps in setting up a working redressal and grievance committee to address the questions and queries of the students stating that is a violation of the previous court order.

The Delhi High Court has also issued notices to the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission.

The Court in a Single Bench led by Justice Prathiba M Singh said,

The Open Book Exam (OBE) examination has commenced on 10th August 2020 and students are expressing several grievances which need to be addressed. The working committee which is to look into the grievance of students giving OBE exams which are currently under way cannot be permitted to be hampered in this manner.

This is complete non-compliance of the order passed by the court on 7th August 2020.

On August 7th 2020 the court did allow the Delhi University to go ahead with but also had passed series of directions to streamline the entire process one of the directions was to constitute Grievance Redressal Committee

On 7th August 2020 the Delhi HC had set up a high level GRC managed by retired judges and advocates but the DU has not been cooperating with them.

The counsel for the petitioner students Adv. Akash Sinha and Shubam Saket has supported decision of the GRC and have also stated that the authorities have not complied with the court’s orders.

The order has come in an application of a pending writ petition in the case of Anupam and Ors v. University of Delhi.

This writ petition was filed to challenge the decision of the Delhi University to go ahead and conduct Online Open Book Exam for final year undergraduate students.
