Financial Fight Against COVID-19 For Lawyers.

Since the lockdown in March, all citizens are facing a financial crisis due to economic breakdown. The lawyers are the most affected from it as reduce in the ligation cases and downsizing in the law corporate.

The Bar Council of India had pleaded to financial aid for the lawyer who has lost income and facing financial difficulties. According to the BCI, presently there are approx. 16 lakh advocates enrolled across State Bar Councils in the country.

The plea stated to direct the central government and official authorities to aid with financial assistance by the interest-free loan up to Rs. 3 lakhs to advocates across the country associated with the bar council or state bar association. The same shall be repayable in monthly installments for 12 months after normal court start to commence. 

The plea took the support of Section 13 of the Disaster Management Act which states to provide a grant of financial relief including loan on concessional terms to persons affected by the disaster. 

Yesterday after hearing the plea, the three-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of India SA Bobde issued notice to the Bar Council of India, to the Centre, State Bar Councils, each High Court’s Register and recognized High Court Bar Associations in the said matter.
