Patanjali has been restrained from using Trademark “CORONIL” until 30th July 2020.

On the 17th July 2020, in the High Court of Judicature at Madras restrained Patanjali to use Trademark “CORONIL” until 30th July 2020. The application filed under Order XIV Rule 8 of O.S Rules R/w Order XXXIX Rule 1 and 2 of Civil Procedure of Code praying to pass and order of an interim injunction restraining the respondent.

The bench headed by Justice CV Karthikeyan issued the interim injunction after finding that Chennai-based Arudra Engineering Private Limited had registered the trademark for “CORONIL-92B” as an Acid inhibitor product for industrial cleaning and chemical preparations for industrial as early as June 1993.  It had further that the trademark registration has since been renewed diligently and is subsisting till date. The grant of the injunction was given as the order “the similarity in the name is obvious. The name used by the defendant is the same. The spelling is the same”.
