The amendment in Epidemic Diseases act for stricter punishment for offence against health workers ordinance approved by cabinet

The cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance to amend the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 to provide stricter punishment for attacks against health workers.

The amendment was approved in view of reports of attacks & harrashments against Doctors, Nurses, Asha workers, Said union minister for information and broadcasting.

The ordinance proposes of the police investigation of crime against medical workers should be over within 30 days, and that the trail should be completed within 1 year. The punnishment will be from 3 month to 5 Years and Fine from Rs. 50,000 to 2,00,000.

The offence will be non-bailable. There will be Provisions for Compensation of Personal loss & Damage of Properties of health workers.
