Will Impose Heavy Costs If You Argue This Case: SC To Petitioner Challenging Rise In Petrol & Diesel Price

On Tuesday a petition was filed in the Supreme Court about the rising petrol and diesel prices in the country.

The Supreme Court was expressed unwillingness with the petitioner regarding this petition and said that you will withdraw the petition yourself or we will impose a fine.

When this petition was heard, Justice Nariman asked the petitioner whether you will withdraw your petition or shall we impose a fine? With this petition was dismissed.

“Do you really want to argue this case? Because we will impose heavy costs if you do”

On this, the counsel for the petitioner said that we only wanted to bring this matter to the notice of the court. Afterward, the lawyer for the Kerala-based petitioner, Shaji Kodankandat withdraws the plea.

There was a continuous increase in the prices of petrol and diesel amid the Corona crisis. After which the opposition also attacked the government. However, the court has been refusing to interfere in such policy decisions before.

However, now when the price of crude oil has come down drastically in the international market, then it has shown some effect in the country as well. In the last few days, the price of diesel has decreased by 40 paise, while the price of petrol is stable.

According to the latest data, diesel prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai remain at Rs 73.16, Rs 76.66, Rs 79.69 and Rs 78.48 respectively. Similarly, the price of petrol remains stable at Rs 82.08, Rs 83.57, Rs 88.73 and Rs 85.04 per liter respectively.

On the same day, the price of crude oil has reached $ 39 per barrel, which till now was $ 42 per barrel. In such a situation, it is expected that the prices of petrol and diesel may come down in the next few days.
