446 cases disposed of by Madras High Court, during COVID-19 Lockdown; 10,206 cases disposed of by subordinate courts:

During the period of lockdown, in the Principal Seat at Madras, from 26 March 2020 to 07 May 2020, 732 cases were instituted, out of which 341 cases have been disposed of, and in Madurai Bench 215 cases were instituted, of which 105 cases were disposed of.

In the Subordinate Courts during the same period, 12,109 cases have been instituted, of which 10,206 cases have been disposed of. From 18 April 2020, all the cases are being dealt with only through Video-conferencing.

However, well-informed that more judges are sit to hear cases from this month, and that the number of cases taken up during this period.  Court already has announced the summer vacation earlier scheduled to begin from this month has been cancelled during Covid-  19 lockdown.

Tamil Nadu Bar Council on Friday resolved to request the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court that regular sittings of the Court be resumed from June onward, taking into consideration all relevant aspects.
