AP HC PASSES STRICT ORDER FOR TRANSPORTATION OF STRANDED MIGRANTS

The AP HC on Friday passed an order directing to set up temporary camps near the Toll Plazas for providing the migrants with drinking water and other adequate facilities in Districts like Krishna, Guntur, Srikakulam, Chittoor and other.

A division bench presided by Chief Justice Sri Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari and Justice Lalitha Kanneganti of AP HC while conducting hearing through video conferencing further noted that a coordination team be appointed including Red Cross Workers, Social Workers or Voluntary Organizations, Para Legal Volunteers, Village Volunteers and an employee each from Departments of Revenue, Police, Health and Local Administration for keeping track about the whereabouts of the Migrant Workers and make them ready for adequate facilities.

The Court was hearing a PIL alleging that Central Governments is not allowing the migrant workers settled in Vijayawada and Guntur Districts in particular and other parts of the State to return to their homes and has sought directions to arrange their safe travel by providing transportation.

The Court further directed that registrations may be done for their shifting to the places where they intended to go with assistance to Acrux IT Services Pvt. Ltd. Within 8 hours.

It has also been directed that based on the collected data arrangement for the transport by way of Government of private buses may be made. The higher officials of the AP Government and the State where workers are required to be sent shall coordinate with each other for requisite of the quarantine facility and other requirements.

The Principal Secretary and the Commissioner of the Transport Department shall coordinate with the officers at the district level. District Collector shall supervise the team for visiting the camps every day and understand their problem. Whereas, Secretary, District Legal Service Authority shall also visit camps every day for an hour.
