Rajeev Gandhi assassination case convict Nalini attempts to commit suicide in prison

Nalini Sriharan one of the seven convicted for the assassination of the former Prime Minister Rajeev Gandhi attempted to commit suicide at the Vellore Special Prison for Women Monday night. 

This news made the headline after the confirmation from her lawyer, P. Pugalenthi alleged as she tried to commit suicide and wished to have an inquiry as the convicted as never shown such attitude during her 30- year incarceration. Also, request CM to shift her to Puzhal prison for her safety.  

The police and other prison officials have denied the claimed made by her lawyer stating that she threatened to commit suicide due to harassment complaint about a quarrel with a fellow convict. Nalini threatened when the jailer went to her cell and she demands to change the cell. If the demand was not fulfilled, she alleged to commit suicide 

Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a woman suicide bomber of the LTTE on May 21, 1991, in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. The seven accused were convicted by a special TADA court and sentenced to death. Later on, the death to the sentence was changed to life imprisonment.
