Restrained to resume physicals hearing by Supreme Court.

Yesterday, the 7 Judge Committee of Supreme Court declines the request to resume of physical hearing for now. The seven-committee headed by Justice NV Ramana had declined the request to resume physical hearing due to an increase in cases of Covid-19. The meeting has critical as the rise in the instance of lawyers to take alternative career options, dying to suicide or moving away from the legal profession as their income is ceased due to pandemic.

The meeting held yesterday with the key officials of Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association (SCAORA), Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). 

The 7 judge Committee of Justices Ramana, Arun Mishra, RF Nariman, UU Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and L Nageswara Rao met on 24th July 2020 with the President of SCBA, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave, Chairman of the BCI, Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra and President of SCAORA, Shivaji Jadhav.  

Jadhav and Dave stressed upon the Committee that physical hearing importance due to stress in the law profession. They requested to resume the physical hearing soon while continuing the virtual hearings. The intention for physical hearing is sole for the interest of justice and welfare of all stakeholders involved. Whatever said, the committee refused the purpose and decided against the physical hearing.  Next meet shall be conducted after the two weeks by the committee.
